Every place that we visit in our lives is special leaves an impact on our lives holds a small corner in our existence. But there is a place that we experience in a whole new way, we accept that place with open arms and make it a turning point in our lives. It is not about the remoteness of the place or its beauty nor it's the people.
With job that takes you places, places that are considered one of the most beautiful places on earth you get sensitised these experiences, for the most part treating each place as a beautiful destination with a certain list of species or bird butterflies or trees turns into a log-book entry rather than an awe-inspiring experience that all the people that you take along have. For you, it is just a place that you have been to.
True every frequent travel has a whole different experience to the same situation but I am sure as more you travel, the lasting impression of the place on your mind fades away even quicker each time, to a point that the “moment” lasts only to the minute you step of the plane.
The picture that you take start speaking more about the beauty of the place and you begin to appreciate the place solely by the photographs.
But there comes along a place that etches into your memory, not the most beautiful of the places, not the place that you clocked the most species or saw that rare creature you had never seen before -lifer as we birders call them-. A place that you can not go back through pictures, a place that you will never experience again. A place that you can visit anytime yet cannot explain to others why it evokes the rush of emotions. Someplace you cannot capture in your camera so you just leave it behind. A place that you know will stay with you forever and a Shangri La that doesn't let you come back once you leave only because you can visit again but you can never go back.
